A Welcome Letter from the Chinese Community Organizations in Milwaukee
A Welcome Letter from the Chinese Community Organizations in Milwaukee
A Lian (Dear Lian):
How are you?
The month of June brought the beginning of summer to Milwaukee. In such a pleasant season, we welcome you to join the NBA team of Milwaukee Bucks. This was wonderful news that greatly excited the whole Chinese community in Milwaukee. Now, representing all the Chinese people in this area, we want to extend our most sincere congratulations, as well as the warmest welcome, to you and your family.
The Milwaukee area is located in the center of the Unites States, within the boundary of the State of Wisconsin. It also lies on the western shore of Lake Michigan, the largest freshwater lake in this country. 64,000,000 people (approximately one-fourth of the U.S. population) live within one day's driving distance from Milwaukee. Milwaukee is about 90 minutes north of Chicago, the third largest city in the U.S..
The Chinese communities in the Milwaukee area are culturally rich. Currently, the six major Chinese community organizations include the Association of Chinese Scientists and Engineers (ACSE), Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA), Milwaukee Chinese Community Center (MCCC) / Milwaukee Modern Chinese School (MMCS), the Chinese Students and Scholars Associations at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), Marquette University (MU) and Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). We often organize a variety of gatherings and activities to celebrate the traditional Chinese holidays and to showcase our Chinese heritage. There are quite a few Asian markets and dozens of Chinese restaurants in this area, so it is very convenient to enjoy Chinese food here. We believe that you and your family will feel at home living in Milwaukee.
In addition, there are many NBA fans among the Milwaukee Chinese people. We especially look forward to your embarking an NBA career as a Chinese basketball star. During the past few years, whenever Yao Ming came to Milwaukee with the Rockets, we always went to watch the games and cheered for him, either through groups organized by the Chinese communities, or through self-organized spontaneous groups. After you join the Bucks, more and more Chinese people among us will become your loyal fans.
Wish your NBA career a great success!
