Fourth District Alderman Robert J. Bauman may be serving in his first term as a member of the Milwaukee Common Council, but he is well known in the community for his work as an attorney, as a neighborhood activist, and as an advocate on transportation issues.
Alderman Bauman has been active as a member of Historic Concordia Neighbors, Inc. and the West End Development Corp. and has served on several transportation panels, including the Advisory Committee of the Downtown Transit Connector Study, the Technical Advisory Committee of the East-West Corridor Study, the Transportation Commission of the City of Milwaukee, and the Southeast Wisconsin New Transportation Alliance, Inc. His experience as a business owner has included a company that provided consulting and marketing services to the transportation industry and the public sector, and he founded and served as president of the Milwaukee Rail Car Corporation.
Prior to his election he operated his own private law practice in downtown Milwaukee, specializing in civil litigation, criminal defense, employment law, family law and real estate. He also served as volunteer legal counsel to the West End Development Corp., the Cornerstone Theater Company, the Milwaukee Preservation Alliance, the Revive the Cannon Ball Committee, and the Wisconsin Electric Railway Historical Society.
