April 9, 2008 An Invitation to the City of Milwaukee's Inauguration Ceremony Dear Friends: Last week Tuesday, I was humbled and honored when you entrusted me with a second term as your Mayor. Serving as Milwaukee’s Chief Executive has been one of the greatest privileges of my life, and I am proud to lead a City as great as ours. There are so many terrific things happening in Milwaukee – just take a look at some of the rankings we’ve recently earned:
- Forbes.com: Top 10 Up-and-Coming Tech City
- Entrepreneur Magazine: Top 20 Hot City for Entrepreneurs
- DowJones: Top 20 for Businesses
- Forbes.com: Among the Best for Young Professionals
- AARP: Top 5 City to Retire In
- Bizjournals: 14th Most Fun City in America
- Forbes.com: 6th Most Affordable City to Live Well
- Paralyzed Veterans: 2007 Most Patriotic City in America
- American Style: Top 25 Arts Destination
- Popular Science: Top 25 Green City Ranking
As exciting as all of this is, I know that Milwaukee’s best days are ahead. I am eager to continue our work to create good-paying jobs; strengthen public safety and fight crime in our community; and spark exciting development efforts that keep our economy vibrant and expand opportunities for every resident.
Next week Tuesday, we will continue these missions when the Common Council and I are sworn into office, and I hope you will join us for the Inauguration Ceremony and the Mayor’s Office Open House. Both events are free and open to the public. Tickets to the Inauguration can be picked up at the door the day of the event, and tickets are not required for the Open House – so there is no need to pre-register for either event. This is a great way to see your elected leaders take office, and I would welcome the opportunity to visit with you in my office after the Inauguration. Thank you once again for your support. I look forward to working with you to tackle the challenges that face us all, and to making Milwaukee even greater than it is today. And I hope to see you next Tuesday, April 15th for the Inauguration Ceremony and Mayor’s Office Open House. Sincerely,
Mayor, City of Milwaukee
