Deputy Inspector Denita R. Ball was appointed to the Milwaukee Police Department on December 23, 1985. She began her career as a police officer in 1985 and after graduating from recruit training was assigned to District Two. She also served at Districts One and Five, Open Records and Lock Up and Court Administration (LUCAD). 

In 1993, she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant of Police and assigned to District Four. Her other assignments included District Five, Personnel Division and the Background Investigation Unit. In 2000, she was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant of Police and assigned to District Four. Upon being promoted to the rank of Captain she served as commander of the Sensitive Crimes Division and was assigned there, until her promotion to Deputy Inspector of Police.

Deputy Inspector Ball is a graduate of the Northwestern University Traffic Institute School of Police Staff and Command, The Wisconsin Law Enforcement Executive Development Training Course and The FBI National Academy. In 1983 she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) and in 2003 received her Masters Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.

Deputy Inspector Ball a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is married, has two children.
