Contemplated Special Charges

The City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) is charged with certain responsibilities relating to the safety of children in their homes. To that end MHD can order the removal of lead based paint hazards from a property. Either voluntarily with the consent of the property owner, or by Court Order if the owner has not complied with orders, MHD may hire a Lead Abatement Contractor to remove lead hazards from property. This action is called "Direct Administration of Abatement".

Charges for this work constitute a lien against the property and ultimately can be placed on the property tax bill.

The properties listed below have had Direct Administration of Abatement of Lead Hazards performed by licensed contractors. The charges are scheduled to be placed on the 2008 tax roll expected to be issued in December, 2008. Once placed on the tax roll, these charges will no longer appear on the Contemplated Special Charges list, but will appear directly on the property tax bill.

If you observe the same address with two different balances, this indicates that the Interior and Exterior Orders were abated and invoiced at two separate times. This information is current as of April 7, 2009.
