Reducing mosquito breeding will help to prevent the spread of West Nile Virus (WNV)
One way to prevent mosquito breeding is by properly disposing of waste tires. If you have any waste tires (5 or fewer) to dispose of, please call 414-286-8282. Removing any standing, stagnant water on your property will also help to prevent mosquitoe breeding.
In 2008 , the MHD will again conduct environmental surveillance for West Nile Virus (WNV) so that we can know if and when the virus is present in mosquitoes and/or birds on our area. WNV is transmitted through the bite of a mosquitoe that carries the virus. Most people bitten by a mosquitoe with the virus will not become infected with WNV.
