Declaration of Candidacy
This State form, EB-169, is due by 5:00 p.m. on January 2, 2007, the filing deadline for the candidate to be considered for ballot placement.
Please indicate at the top of the form if this filing is an amendment (for first filing, check the "No" box).
It is important that all data listed is legible.
Nonpartisan, or candidates for city offices, may choose to leave the "political party or statement of principle" line blank.
The form must be notarized; the signature of the candidate must be given in the presence of the notary. This form may be notarized in the office of the Election Commission.
The body of the oath on this form lists the requirements of an elected official.
The requirements include:
A minimum of 18 years of age.
U.S. citizenship.
Residency:
The residency requirement is linked to the position. Therefore, if it is a citywide office that the candidate is seeking, then the residency must be within the city limits. If it is the aldermanic position, then the candidate must have residency within the Aldermanic District. The candidate's residency must be established within 10 days of the General Election date.
Not have been convicted of a felony in any court in the United States for which the candidate has not been pardoned.
Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving a violation of public trust for which the candidate has not been pardoned.
