Mosaic's Developing History

In 2001, Mayor of Rochester, New York William A. Johnson launched the Mosaic Partnerships Program (called "Bi-Racial Partnerships for Community Progress" in Rochester) to address race relations issues.

Over the past four years, the Program has brought together more than 500 leaders in the Rochester community from various sectors of the community, including business, government, education, religious, non-profit, etc.

In Greensboro, North Carolina 150 leaders of the community have successfully completed the first year of the Program in November 2005.   At least two more years of the Program are planned for the community, which will include nearly 500 additional leaders.

Maplewood neighborhood of Rochester is bridging differences in two Mosaic Programs: neighborhood residents and students from local high schools - one predominantly African-American High School and one predominantly White High School.

Milwaukee will launch Phase I of the Program in September 2006.

Other interested communities: Philadelphia, South Hampton Roads (a five city region in southeast Virginia including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Suffolk); Boston, South Africa, Chile, Bosnia.
