Deputy Inspector Galaviz was appointed on February 15, 1982. He has worked in a variety of assignments including Districts Two, Five, and Six, Lock-Up Court Administration Division, Metropolitan Division, Criminal Investigation Bureau, Internal Affairs-Background Investigations, and Deputy Director of the Training Bureau. He also served as a Field Deputy Inspector with operational oversight responsibilities for the entire Department for over 5 years, prior to his current assignment as the Director of the Police Academy.

 

Deputy Inspector Galaviz is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and Northwestern University, School of Police Staff and Command. He has completed a Master of Science Degree in Vocational and Technical Education; two Bachelor of Science Degrees in Public Administration and Criminal Justice Administration; and two Associate Degrees in Police Science and General Education. He is presently pursing a second Master of Science Degree in Training and Development.

 

Deputy Inspector Galaviz has proudly served his country for over 27 years: 4 years active duty and 23 years of active reserve time. He recently retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves holding the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. In 1990, he proudly served in the war campaign in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm.

 

Deputy Inspector Galaviz's civic mindedness has led him to volunteer his time for several years as follows: St. Veronica Parish and School board member, soccer and basketball coach, parade and festival volunteer; Mexican Fiesta as Director of Operations; and Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of America as a recruiter, softball coach and general activities volunteer.
