Assistant Chief Harpole began his career with the Milwaukee Police Department as a police aide on September 9, 1985. He was promoted to the rank of police officer in 1987, sergeant in 1996, lieutenant in 2000, captain in 2005, and assistant chief of police in 2008. Throughout his career he has worked at a number of department locations, including the Identification Division, Data Services Division, Districts Two, Three, Five and Six, the Communications Division, Patrol Support Division, and the Internal Affairs/Professional Performance Division. He is currently assigned as the bureau commander of the Criminal Investigation Bureau.
He believes in a collaborative policing strategy, which is community based and neighborhood focused, embracing all of the stakeholders in a neighborhood.
Assistant Chief Harpole holds a bachelors degree in the Administration of Justice from Marian University. He is 2004 graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, and a 2008 graduate of the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police. Assistant Chief Harpole is married and has two daughters.
