The following lead education programs are available through the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevetion Program (CLPPP). For more information contact the Health Educator at 414-286-2102.
Lead 101: This training provides basic knowledge on childhood lead poisoning. A variety of topics are covered including: the impact of childhood lead poisoning, the scope of the problem nationally and in Milwaukee, sources, and prevention techniques. Lead 101 can be adapted to the focus of individual groups.
Property Owner Training: The CLPPP has the capacity to provide property owners and maintenance workers with information to do their own lead safe home repairs. Owners who enroll in the Primary Prevention program can get one-on-one instruction on lead-safe practices from a certified MHD Risk Assessor.
Pediatric and Family Practice Medical Resident Community Experience: An education and field observation experience is available to Family Practice and Pediatric Residents as part of their community medicine rotation. This experience is available to any Family Practice Resident or any Medical Student on the 3rd Thursday of the month from 8:30 am to 12 noon. To schedule, please call the Public Health Nurse Supervisor at 286-2164 at lease two weeks prior to the 3rd Thursday. For Pediatric Residents, this is scheduled through the Medical College of Wisconsin staff.
Health Fairs: Is your school or community group planning a health fair? The MCLPPP has a portable lead poisoning exhibit that can be used at such events. In addition, program staff are available to provide prevention counseling or other related services at your event. To find out more or to schedule your event, call 414-286-2120.

This 12-minute video was researched, written and produced in 2005 by five high school students from the City of Milwaukee's "Earn and Learn Summer Internship Program". This video provides important lead poisoning information and education from a community perspective using Milwaukee as its primary focal point.

20 minutes. This piece discusses the causes and effects of lead poisoning as well as how to prevent it. Includes personal stories of people affected by lead poisoning. Some of the information is specific to the Boston area.

12 minutes. The history of lead is discussed as well as sources of lead (with special emphasis on lead-based paints), and the symptoms and health effects of lead poisoning, Information for parents on what they can do to prevent childhood lead poisoning.
HUD Window Treatment Video
15 minutes. In Milwaukee, windows have been shown to be the primary source of lead exposure for children. Window work is strongly emphasized in making homes lead safe. This video was made by the Milwaukee Health Department showing the window treatments from start to finish.
Lead Safe Home Improvement
42 minutes. This video gives practical methods for reducing lead hazards in housing, and how to do lead safe maintenance work. We have other videos available, please call 414-286-2120, for a more detailed selection. We can also help you determine which video is right for your group.

3 Before Age 3
This handout is directed to parents of young children. It advises them of the Milwaukee Health Department's recommendations for testing their children for lead poisoning. This brochure also gives parents advice on where to get a lead test for their child.
Keep Your Children Safe From Lead

A pamphlet describing the role windows play in childhood lead poisoning in Milwaukee, and how to clean windows to temporarily reduce lead hazards.
