NEWS FROM THE MAYOR

Dear Friends,

Many people will silence their alarms and snooze through this upcoming Monday, enjoying the luxury of a day off from work. They’ll dedicate little or no thought to the profound reason why they’ll skip the morning commute. They will not reminisce on the countless individuals whose bravery and selflessness is certainly worthy of daily consideration, let alone one holiday. Memorial Day is a time for reflection and remembrance. Ironically, people often forget this.

Today, I challenge the citizens of Milwaukee to become more active in Memorial Day. Take a few moments out of your daily routine to contemplate the sacrifices made by those in uniform. Partake in community activities honoring those who served our nation. Support your local veterans and let them know you appreciate their service.

Regardless of political stances or opinions on war, a soldier’s life is not an easy one. The struggles they endure without the comfort of their family and friends are impressive enough to devote some thought. Think of the men and women who pledge their life for something they believe in. Such devotion is a testament to human resolve and courage. People of all political alignments can respect that, along with the comfort that those who lost loved ones need this Monday.

Memorial Day provides a time to cast aside differences and reflect on the sacrifices made by the men and woman who serve our country. I urge Milwaukee to take a moment of time to do so on Monday. Enjoy the weekend.
