Elected officials have a special responsibility to the public to uphold the law. I commend Mr. Biskupic for his vigilance in pursuing these matters. He will have my continued cooperation providing any necessary information in this matter stemming from 2001 or any other requests he makes.
In our system of justice, Alderman Donovan is, of course, presumed innocent until proven guilty.
In light of today's events, I have directed the City's Block Grant Administrator to immediately suspend funding to the Milwaukee Alliance until the City Attorney advises that all matters of conflict of interest and any other issues related to today's charges are resolved.
The Milwaukee Alliance received approval for a $150,000 grant. $51,274 has been allocated this year leaving a remaining balance of $98,726 that will be suspended.
