Mayor Barrett Statement on Festival Fireworks: 

Today the Joint Committee for Administrative Rules will hold a public hearing on a bill that would direct the Department of Natural Resources to negate a long-standing ban against fireworks in state parks.  I would hope that all parties involved would take a step back and redirect their energies to discussing alternatives that could meet the needs of all involved.

Years of negotiations, involving many interested parties, resulted in the development of Lake Shore Park.   I'm confident that new discussions of alternate sites or use of a barge will protect the mission and access of Lakeshore State Park and retain the historic and cultural appeal of Summerfest and our ethnic festivals.
