Mayor Barrett announces the Historic Restoration Project
at a news conference

Mayor's comments supporting minority participation:

"It gives us in government the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to giving people in the city a chance to work"  ..... "This project has 18% EBE and 25 % residency requirements and apprentice requirements" .....

Mayor's comments supporting National Landmark Status:
"Milwaukee City Hall expresses the social, political, and intellectual aspirations of the German settlers who made Milwaukee the "Deutsche Athens of America at the turn of the twentieth century. It was designed to take the best of the Old World building traditions and merge them with the forward-looking technology of the day while creating a landmark that would inspire pride in Milwaukee's achievements."

... "City Hall is probably the best known and most beloved of our historic buildings." ... "City Hall remains the center of Milwaukee's government today and continues as the visual symbol of the many important roles that Milwaukee played in American history."
