Historic Concordia/Avenues West Neighborhood Policing Plan

`

  Chief Edward A. Flynn

The Historic Concordia/Avenues West Policing Plan:

A proactive collaboration between the police department, prosecution and the Wells St community stakeholders. The purpose is to relieve the area of its chief criminal activities; street drug sales, prostitution, robbery and the wide range of offenses and disorder generated by these types of crime.

Mission:

To significantly reduce violent crime and the fear of violent crime, drug sales, prostitution, and other incidents that destroy the quality of life in the targeted corridor; stabilize the neighborhood; increase the feeling of safety amongst the residents; establish strong community partnerships; and increase the credibility of the police within the neighborhood.

Vision:

The ability to sustain a visible reduction in criminal activity in the Wells St corridor. To have reduced calls for service; diminishing arrest rates for the chief criminal activities; an increased feeling of community safety; and a productive and meaningful relationship between police and the community.

WINTER PARKING REGULATIONS

To obtain the posted parking regulations for a specific street go to Street Parking Regulations. This site only includes parking regulations that are posted. Note: Some winter parking regulations are not posted. For a list of these streets please go to the Winter Parking Regulations page.

  • NO PARKING DECEMBER 1 TO MARCH 1

No overnight parking is allowed on through highways and mass transit (bus) routes from December 1 to March 1. These streets are not posted. For a list of these streets please go to the Winter Parking Regulations page. In case of a "Snow Emergency" prior to December 1 or after March 1, vehicles must be moved to a side street and must be legally parked in conformity with all other regulations on the proper side of the street.

  • EXCEPTION TO ALTERNATE SIDE NIGHT PARKING

Overnight parking is allowed on both sides of the street from March 1 to December 1. Alternate side night parking is allowed from December 1 to March 1. These streets are not posted. For a list of these streets please go to the Winter Parking Regulations page.

  • 4" RULE

Certain residential streets are posted "No Parking When Snow Falls 4 Inches or More". Parking is allowed on both sides of the street, except when snow has accumulated on the street surface to the depth of 4 inches or more. Then no parking is allowed on the side of the street where the sign is posted until the snow has been removed--day or night or at any time of the year. To determine whether this regulation applies to a specific street go to Street Parking Regulations.

  • SPECIFIC SIDE PARKING

Certain residential streets are restricted to parking on a specific side of the street during the winter months. These streets are posted with signs reading "No Parking" on one side of the street, either for the entire December 1 to March 1 period, or with a monthly alternation of the prohibited side. To determine whether this regulation applies to a specific street go to Street Parking Regulations.

  • NIGHT PARKING DURING SNOW EMERGENCY

If a snow emergency has been declared, night parking regulations are in effect from 11:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. on all city streets regardless of the winter parking regulation.

  • SNOW ROUTE TOW-AWAY ZONE

A "Snow Emergency" is declared to exist whenever snow falls during any period of 24 hours or less to a depth which is determined and declared by the Commissioner of Public Works to constitute a serious public hazard impairing transportation, the movement of food and fuel supplies, medical care, fire, health, and police protection, and other vital facilities of the City. Such an emergency is declared to continue for a period of 72 hours or until such earlier times as snow plowing operations have been declared completed by the Commissioner of Public Works. "Snow Emergencies" are widely publicized on local radio and television stations. In addition, "Temporary No Parking Tow Away" signs may be posted by the City to assist in clean-up after major snowfalls. Vehicles parked in violation of "Snow Route Tow-Away Zone" and "Temporary No Parking Tow Away" signs or obstructing traffic during a "Snow Emergency" will be towed away at owner's expense. There are no exceptions.

  • MPS PARKING FOR SNOW EMERGENCIES

Milwaukee Public Schools make some of its playgrounds and parking lots available for overnight parking during declared snow emergencies and clean-up periods. Take a look at Snow Emergency, Off-Street Parking on School Playgrounds List. Call the Department of Public Works Information Center at (414) 286-8282 during regular business hours for the location of a playground nearest your home.

'Tis The Season

As the holiday season fast approaches, here a few reminders to help you avoid becoming a victim...

REMEMBER:

  • Never leave packages in your vehicle out in plain sight. Secure purchased items in your trunk immediately upon exiting the store and prior to parking at your next destination.
  • Don't overload yourself with packages while walking to and from your vehicle. You should always have a hand free for use or defense if necessary.
  • Try not to get preoccupied with the hustle and bustle of the season, or your task at hand. You should always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Don't walk around with cash in hand taking inventory of the amount you have to spend. Only access your money prior to making a purchase and secure it before leaving the register.
  • If after following these tips you still find yourself becoming a victim, don't be afraid to let go of any of the packages you worked so hard to buy. DO NOT RISK BODILY INJURY OR WORSE, FOR MATERIAL ITEMS!! Your life, safety and security are far more important.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!

MPD REPORT CARD ON DISTRICT THREE CRIME LOOKING GOOD

WITI TV, Milwaukee-The results are in for a crime crackdown in one northside neighborhood. Fox 6's Jeremy ROSS brings you this story from District Three Headquarters. This story was the result of the status update meeting held for The Historic Concordia/Avenues West Neighborhood Policing Plan, which took place Thursday, April 10, 2008. This update meeting was an opportunity for District Three personnel to present crime statistics on the policing initiative currently in place. More importantly, it was an opportunity for the citizens and other community stakeholders to give their opinion on the successes and failures of the initiative.
