The Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Milwaukee Police Department is charged with the responsability of handling criminal felony investigations. The CIB is moving towards an intelligence led, data driven, problem-solving, offender based and neighborhood focused approach. This is intended to maintain the highest standard of investigations and clearance rates, while engaging in proactive preventative measures that also reduce crime in the neighborhoods of the city of Milwaukee.

The Criminal Investigation Bureau is proud to announce the promotion of Timothy Heier to the rank of Lieutenant of Detectives on Sunday, May 3, 2009. Prior to his promotion, Lieutenant Heier was a detective in the Criminal Investigation Bureau's Homicide Division. In his new assignment, Lieutenant Heier will be assigned to the Violent Crimes Division's Violent Crimes Section on the night shift.
On Friday, April 24, 2009 Members of the Milwaukee Police Department, including detectives and police officers assigned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau participated in a roll call conducted at North 24th Street and West McKinley Boulevard. The area had recently seen an increase in violent crime, including a homicide. The roll call was well received by officers and citizens-who also attended. Since this time crime has reduced and those responsible for the homicide have been arrested and prosecuted.
On April 24th members of the Sensitive Crimes Division, along with Assistant Chief Harpole accepted a Rebuilding Lives Service Award presented by Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm. The award was presented during in a special ceremony held in the courthouse rotunda celebrating the 25th anniversary of National Crime Victims' Rights Week. The Milwaukee Police Department's Sensitive Crimes Division was selected for this award due to their dedicated involvement during the past 25 years in helping crime victims rebuild their lives. The theme of the ceremony was: 25 Years of Rebuilding Lives: Celebrating the Victims of Crime Act.
