Computer Skills Public Classes

COMPUTER SKILLS TRAINING 

Inacom Information Systems provide trainers for our in-house Computer Skills training. Inacom also offers a wide variety of classes to the public at their Brookfied location (18650 W. Corporate Drive, Brookfield WI. Parking is free.) Examples of course categories include:

    • Adobe (Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Flash, InDesign, Ilustrator, PhotoShop)
    • Crystal Reports 11
    • IT Management & Planning
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, Visio, Word); classes are offered for:  2002 (XP), 2003 and 2007.
    • Microsoft .NET Development
    • Microsoft Desktop Administration
    • Microsoft Exchange Server
    • Microsoft Security/Management
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003
    • Microsoft XP / Vista
    • Project Management
    • They also offer technical certifications (Click here for more information.)  Please note that only those in the Management Pay Plan are currently eligible to use their Tuition Benefit for job-related certification and exam fees.

HOW TO FIND A PUBLIC CLASS:

  1. Click here for a pdf version of the current public class schedule (updated 01-06-09). 
    • To view the course descriptions, you need to go to Inacom's website (click here). DO NOT register for any of the courses on the Inacom website or you will have to pay for the class "out-of-pocket" using a credit card and will not receive a discount. Please use the online catalog ONLY to find a course description.
  2. After you find a course you want to take, please send an email to jkamme@milwaukee.gov for the discounted cost.  Be sure to include the exact Course Title(s) in the email message.  

HOW TO ENROLL IN A PUBLIC CLASS:

  1. Once you have selected the course(s) you want to take, click here to download and complete the Training Enrollment Form (Revised 8/8/08; MS Word format). Please always use the most up-to-date Enrollment Form.
  2. Read the Instructions on the form.
  3. Judy Kammerman from Training & Development Services will register you for the class(es).  Once the registration process is complete you will receive an email regarding a "pending" registration directly from Inacom Information Systems.  With 72 hours of the pending registration, you will receive the official confirmation, again via email, from Inacom
    • IMPORTANT!!!  To avoid any penalitiesyou MUST cancel your registration with 10 business days of the class date.  If you fail to cancel or do not attend, the registration fee will be deducted from your paycheck, or your department will be billed for the registration fee. 
  4. There is no up-front payment only if you follow the instructions listed above!
    • The registration fee is "deducted" from your Tuition Benefit Account balance, assuming you are eligible and have a sufficient balance.  If you are not sure you are eligible, or if you have a balance, send an email to jkamme@milwaukee.gov.
    • If your department chooses to pay for the classes, Judy will send your department an IRI form after you complete the class.
  5. In order to use the Tuition Benefit to pay for courses taken on "City Time" they must be directly related, and critical to your present position as determined by your Supervisor or Department Head and the Department of Employee Relations.  Otherwise, you must attend use your own time (i.e., vacation, comp time) to attend the training.

IMPORTANT REMINDER!

Employees must remain in service for a 6-month period after the successful completion date of approved courses, seminars or conferences or the amount will be deducted from the employee’s final paycheck.  You will not receive reimbursement if you leave prior to completion.  Employees of Local 215, MPFFA, must remain in service for a 1-year period.

 Exceptions are:  Retirements, transfers to MPS, positions eliminated due to budget cuts, or tuition reimbursement used by employee at the department’s request.
