Mayor Barrett Statement on Pabst City

Milwaukee, WI -- I want taxpayers to know the truth about the PabstCity project.  Private special interests want taxpayers to believe that investment in PabstCity will divert money from police and fire services, pothole repair, garbage collection and other City services.  That is absolutely false.

Not one dime used to support City services will be used for PabstCity.  Taxes will not go up because of PabstCity.  In fact, in just a few years, PabstCity will generate 10 times the amount of taxes the property pays today.  Politically motivated special interests have paid for a campaign of mis-information.  They are motivated by financial self-interest, not the good of the City.  Their self interest threatens 1,000 jobs, more than $300 million worth of investment and the development of an entertainment destination that will raise the profile of Milwaukee and lead to more convention business.

Milwaukee's renaissance has been recognized in national and international media. There have been recent articles in the New York Times, the London Financial Times, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Pittsburgh Post Gazette. In all these accounts, Milwaukee is defined as a great City because of our amenities.

Milwaukee's investment in redevelopment is putting us on the map. We must move PabstCity forward.
