Mayor Tom Barrett released the following statement regarding today's shooting at Mary McLeod Bethune Academy:
Milwaukee, WI -- "The cowardly thugs with guns who shot an innocent 9 year old today must be quickly apprehended and severely punished. The very idea that our children and our neighborhoods are victimized by these individuals is repulsive.
No parent, child or neighborhood should have to confront the pain and suffering brought on by these thugs. These individuals don't deserve to be on our streets. Their friends and family members who know they are carrying illegal weapons need to call the police, a minister, a community organization or another responsible party. It's time to turn the thugs in."
