Mayor Barrett Makes RTA Appointment

Milwaukee, WI -- Mayor Tom Barrett has chosen Sharon Robinson for his appointment to the state created Regional Transportation Authority (RTA).  Robinson serves as the Director of the Department of Administration in the Mayor's administration.

The RTA was re-constituted in the state budget to address a potential metro train extension from Kenosha to Milwaukee  (KRM).  The authority is to report back to the legislature and Governor by November 15, 2008.  The report is too include recommendations on a permanent regional funding source for commuter rail operating and capital costs and how to distribute that funding among mass transit operators in the three counties.

"I am pleased Sharon Robinson has accepted this appointment.  It is vital that the Regional Transportation Authority understand the needs of an urban and diverse population. I'm confident that Ms. Robinson will be a persuasive and effective spokesperson for Milwaukee," said Mayor Barrett.

The RTA appointment requires Common Council approval which is expected in January.
