The guided bus being considered for operationin Milwaukee is the Bombardier Corporation's "Tram on Tires" system. FACTS: This system consists of a three-unit articulated rubber tired vehicle (80' long and 8'2" wide with a seating capacity of 40, standee capacity of 100 and a maximum speed of 44 mph) powered by an overhead trolley wire, similar to light rail and trolley buses. The vehicle is steered by a guidance arm that rides on a single rail located in a trench or slot in the pavement. The system may be built with some "dual power" capability that would permit manual operation for short distances off the trolley wire. "Tram on Tires" guided buses have operators like a conventional diesel bus or light rail vehicle. For more information please see www.bombardier.com/index.jsp.
