In Person Registration and Absentee Voting

Beginning TUESDAY, OCTOBER 7, In-Person Registration and Absentee Voting is occurring in the Frank P. Zeidler Municipal Building

City of Milwaukee Registered voters should enter at the intersection of Market Avenue and Kilbourn Avenue. Residents needing to register to vote should enter at the intersection of Kilbourn Avenue and Broadway Avenue.

Residents of the City of Milwaukee may register to vote and/or vote an Absentee Ballot for the November 4th election.

IMPORTANT: REGISTERED VOTERS MAY EXPRESS VOTE by entering the Municipal Building from the 830 North Market Street (Kilbourn Avenue and Market Street) entrance. Parking for EXPRESS VOTING is available along Kilbourn Avenue between Market Street and Broadway.

Any person needing to REGISTER AND VOTE should enter the Municipal Building at the 841 North Broadway (Broadway and Kilbourn Avenue) entrance.

Parking for voter registration is available along Broadway.

NOTE: Voter registration is required for:

  • new City of Milwaukee residents
  • registered voters who have had an address or name change since they last registered to vote
  • any person registering to vote after October 15 is required to provide "Proof of Residence"

To Individuals Registering to Vote:

The State of Wisconsin has TWO IDENTIFICATION (proof of residence) requirements for individual’s registering to vote after the close of registration (October 15) or on Election Day.

ID #1: ACCEPTABLE FORM OF PROOF OF RESIDENCE

Residents registering after the close of registration (October 15) or on Election Day, must provide a document that shows your current and complete name, including both the first and last name, and a current and complete residential address, including a numbered street address and the name of a municipality (no post office boxes).

Acceptable Proof of Residence Documents
Forms which have an expiration date must be valid in order to constitute acceptable Proof of Residence. Listed below are acceptable forms:

  • A current and Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
  • A current and valid identification card issued by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (also known as a “State ID”).
  • Any official identification card or license issued by a Wisconsin governmental body or unit.
  • An official identification card license issued by an employer in the course of business that contains a photograph of the cardholder or license holder, but not including a business card.
  • A residential lease effective for the period that includes Election Day.
  • A real estate tax bill or receipt for the current year or the year preceding the election.
  • A utility bill including cable television, gas, electric, or telephone for the period commencing not earlier than 90 days before Election Day.
  • A bank statement or a paycheck.
  • A check or other document issued by a unit of government.
  • A university, college, or technical institute fee card that contains a photograph*
    * If you are a college student residing in campus housing, and your college/university has provided a certified list of students in campus housing, you may use your student ID or fee card as long as it contains your photo. If no list has been provided, or your name does not appear on the list, you must supply some other form of proof of residence or corroborating witness.

Corroborating Witness
If you are unable to supply acceptable proof of residence, you can substantiate your name and address through a corroborating witness (a person who can confirm your identity and residence information). The corroborator must live in the City of Milwaukee, provide proof of residence and sign a certification statement on your registration application.

ID #2: DRIVER’S LICENSE NUMBER

You are required by law to record (NOT show, unless you are using it as your proof of residence) your Wisconsin driver’s license number (regardless of whether the address on the license is current) in the identification section of your registration application.

  • If you have never been issued a Wisconsin driver’s license, or the license is expired, revoked or suspended, you may record a State ID number or the last four digits of your social security number.
  • If you have never been issued a Wisconsin driver’s license, State ID or social security number, you may check the box to the right of the ID section and complete the registration process.
